DZ Faceoff (WIN) - Weakside Breakout

Defensive Zone (DZ) Faceoff with weakside breakout. Win the draw and move the puck behind the net to the weakside (far side from faceoff). Utilize winger and center to create quick touch passes to exit the zone.

Step by step
Step 1 — Setup/Lineup
- C on draw
- RD on the boards has their forehand for puck retrieval
- LD on inside
- LW on inside and RW on outside
Step 2 — Win the Draw
- Win the draw hard back below the goal line
- RD retrieves the puck
- C and LD tie up
- LW and RW rush opposing D
Step 3 — Move to weakside
- RD carries puck behind net
- LD continues to tie up (tries to delay pressure on our C)
- C mirrors the puck (not getting ahead)
- RW curls back boards side
- LW stays wide and cuts middle for support
Step 4 — D Options
- D can pass to RW
- D can pass to C
- D can skate if no options
Step 5 — RW Pass
- Advance puck to RW
- C swings continuing to miror
Step 6 — Outlet Pass
- RW touch passes to C
- Optional RW stretch pass to LW
- Optional chip off boards
Step 7 — Maintain Possession
- Maintain puck control and scan for options
Step 8 — Exit the Zone
- Skate or stretch pass to LW
Step 9 — 2v1 Fast Break
Coaching points
- Communication is key
- Timing by the center is critical
- Far side winger on the break must rush and find open passing lanes to create pressure on the opposing D
